Adam and I have never really liked the kitchen in this house, but thought it would be too expensive and a waste of money (since we rent) to do anything about it. But when I found a couple awesome and cheap ideas to update it, I realized that we could make this kitchen look completely different and not spend much at all.
So while Adam was at work 3 days in a row, I sanded, primed and painted the cabinets. The hardware came a few days later, and the countertops were next. Here's how the budget broke down:
Sand paper, primer and paint: $30
Hardware: less than $1 each x 22 = about $22 (and these are stainless steel cabinet pulls - a great ebay find)
Countertops: $12.
Here's the before:
Andddddd...
SOO much better.
Side note: we found these hydro pearls at the home show - they are, by far, the coolest little things I've come across in awhile. They come in a small sugar-sized packet, you soak them for 8 hrs and they grow to marble sized and you just stick your plants in them!
These are the lillies Adam got for Noah after her dance recital on Friday....pictures to come :)

PLEASE tell me how you got your countertops to look like that!!!!! I hate ours!
Jessie...you are the most amazing woman that I know. Seriously. Matt and I are sitting here in awe of you. Gorgeous kitchen...LOW price tag!
Sorry we keep missing each other...I also get your call while I'm working. We need to chat soon!
Spill it on the countertops! :) I have some ugly ones in our 80s condo that I'm bound to start demo-ing soon! What did you use?
It looks great!
Alright everybody - prepare yourselves for the ghetto news: The countertops are CONTACT PAPER! It's cheap, reversible, easy, fast, you name it. There are even "granite" options - though I think those were closer to $10/roll - I know, real pricey, right? :)
Just make sure the countertops are PERFECTLY clean - the tiniest speak shows up under the contact paper. Easy fix for ugly countertops! :)
Wow that is amazing! I'm so impressed! I might just have to go finds some contact paper soon!
